DECEMBER 25, 2015 - CHRISTMAS NIGHT JAM UPDATE

A blessed Christmas to everyone! This year, we broke tradition and moved the Christmas jam on Christmas night instead of the eve. With the Christmas eve falling on a Thursday, it would be too much and unworkable to have gathered the guys on consecutive days with all the family gatherings happening left and right. We had quite a respectable turnout last night. Though the band fell a bit short on manpower later on when some had to beg off to make an early exit. But thank God a welcome reprieve would happen in the end.
Among the guests, Air Force brats Joey Barroga and Rico Tayko represented the first batch who arrived then followed closely by regular music room friends Ervin Mate, Reynald Perez, Nikki Segundo, Mark Longos, Richard Parcia and Marc de Asis. Gigi Rubio and Luisa Distor were in the house as well. Regular house band honchos, Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Rick Trinidad and Monchie Henares were also present. Comprising the first wave of musicians onboard and with no legitimate drummer on commission, it was going to be my call of duty to sit behind the kit. And so be it. Quickly, we were all set and ready to jam.
Some of the musicians, who had earlier planned to come, begged off at the last minute and some just didn't show up at all. Nonetheless, as the saying goes, "the show must go on". As expected, the jam was a bit slow to progress with some players showing signs of wear apparently from the non-stop holiday partying. When bassist Rick Trinidad left, the drumming was to be left unattended as i had to shift to playing bass instead. We were down to two guitarists, a bassist and two singers with Richard and Monchie ably manning the vocals. But Richard was the man of the hour. Good job Richard.
Suddenly, lifeforce ensued! Versatile and accomplished pianist Kiko Montecillo quickly walks in the room and gamely took his seat at the keyboards. He was a lifesaver! With Kiko’s vast array of pop songs, OPMs and any tune under the sun in his arsenal, we were back in business. With just the piano arrangements alone and with the guitars and bass filling in, we were on a roll. It was exactly like getting a second wind. Thank God! Mission accomplished…as I always say! Great jam guys!
And so just like last night, instead of the eve, we meet again on Friday January 1, New Years night. See you all then!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Dec. 18, 2015 - 2015 Christmas Party - Community jam with Pj Cura, Caila Mapua & Mark Ronquillo (Cruising)

DEC. 18, 2015 - PETE'S PLACE 2015 CHRISTMAS PARTY UPDATE

T'is the season to be jolly! Aptly a manifestation of what transpired last night as our 2015 Music Room Christmas Party unfolded smoothly and auspiciously, as expected. Food, music and warm friendly bonding were in abundance courtesy of all the loyal music room guests who dropped by the house. A conglomeration of old friends, new friends and musicians alike gathering in celebration the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. What else can you possibly ask for?

At this time of the year, it’s not hard to imagine that most food caterers are already fully booked all thoughout the holiday season. It did took a lot of searching before one of our magnanimous sponsors, Richard Parcia, finally found one available. Problem solved. I thank God unendlessly for golden hearted friends like Richard, Mark Ronquillo and Reynald Perez that they do exist in this crazy world we live in. There is definitely hope for humanity. My hats off to all, who in one way or another, helped in making the evening a blast. From your music room family, we thank you so much! God bless you and your kind in heaps and bounds!

The caterer showed up exactly as scheduled despite traffic and discouraging proxomity of origin. With the table nicely set and food reheated, we were all set to go. Fitstop gym friend, Ervin Mate, was the earlybird then Erwin Dimaculangan and Jp Bugarin arriving moments later. Soon more guests showed up. It was party time.
Other musicians who joined me were plentiful as well. Among the long list who came to perform were Richard Parcia, Erwin Dimaculangan, Roger Salazar, Angelo Geronimo, Mark Ronquillo, Mark Longos, Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Rick Trinidad, Aidge & Monchie Henares, Bubui Colico, Pj Cura, Nitoy Adriano and daughters Kate & Michelle, Kristine Virtucio, Paolo Manuel and Ronnie Bungubong of Komikskala, Kiko Montecillo and female vocalists Calai Mapua & Tetel Serra. A hefty roster of talented musicians individually and collectively sharing their God given ability to the delight of the appreciative crowd. Great jam guys!
The jam was relententless with each and every performer taking turns on stage. The music ranged from rock, to pop to jazz depending on the mood. Classic OPM songs were last on the menu with versatile musician Kiko Montecillo on keyboards. We were having so much fun that we did not notice that it was almost daylight. We finally called it a night at exactly 6:20am. Talk about jam overload. What a party!

In closing, let me not forget to acknowledge each and everyone who took part of this glorious fun celebration. Won't be able to remember all the names but thank you all so much for your                                                                                                       presence.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Dec. 11, 2015 - Aidge Henares (Promises) with Tinnie Esguerra, Rick Trinidad, Bubui Colico

DECEMBER 11, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Though a tag somber in mood, with the much anticipated Music Room Christmas Party already next week, i was not about to coin last night's gathering with the proverbial idiomatic expression "calm before the storm". Lazy and relaxing but fulfilling, was a much better description. We had actually a respectable number of guys showing up with some new familiar personalities dropping by. Music room newby and neighbor Robert Cruz made a comeback, this time with another one of his close friends accompanying him. With Robert was the famed race car, circuit and rally driver Jojo Silverio, the son of Toyota's racing legend Dante Silverio. Jojo and his dad rose to global fame as iconic figures in the car racing world back in 70's and 80's. Was great to actually meet him in person. Welcome to the music room Jojo!
My loving wife, Vicky and sibling Tin Tin Mara Reed along with dear friend Cali Tiansay was with us too. Air Force brat Rico Tayko and his buddies dropped by as well. And so as music room regulars Ed Diano, Nikki Segundo, Gab Villanueva and his son Christian. Thank you all for coming.

Even with the band lacking some key players, we were able to pull off the jam well enough. With Aidge and Monchie Henares on board, it was timely for us to try out some old and newer familiar tunes to play. Mark Ronquillo gamely jumped up onstage and joined in the fun with his own vocal renditions, as well. Multi-talented musician Tinnie Esguerra sparingly tinkered the keyboards but opted on playing his guitar most of the evening. Rick Trinidad and Dennis Espiritu alternated on bass. Lefty drummer Bubui Colico who arrived looking cool and collected took his place behind the kit. When Bubui left at past 2am, it was my turn to play drums. The jam was productive but concluded earlier than the usual at around 4am.

Next Friday will be our much awaited Pete's Place Music Room Christmas Party. We are looking forward to another exciting and momentus event to unfold. It's a time to rejoice. A time to be merry. A time to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! Hope to see you all then!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Nov. 27, 2015 - reviewing (Playing For Time) Tinnie Esguerra, Rick Trinidad, Joaco Marco & Pete LapeƱa

NOVEMBER 27, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Despite some no-shows, it was quite a good night for musicians with a respectable number of players showing up for the jam. Unexpectedly, some of the guys who had earlier disclosed of their intention to come failed to make it but was timely replaced by some others. With a benefit night scheduled Saturday for a fallen artiste, a proper rehearsal for the guys participating was the order of the day.
Houseband bassist Rick Trinidad, guitarist extraordinaire Anton Atengco and dynamic drummer Bubui Colico will be performing at the late Jim Ayson's tribute night at Skinny Mike's at the BGC tonight, Nov. 28th. They had identified themselves by the band name "Wooden Pecker". If you guys have time, you can check out our comrade's performance there tonight.
Mark Longos and Bobby Blues Band guitarist and vocalist Bobby Alvarez were the first guys to show up. Multi-talented musician and houseband honcho Tinnie Esguerra arrived next.

Alas at past midnight, vocalist Monchie Henares finally walks in the room to complete the roster for the evening. The mood was a bit mellow and sober compared to last week. We had difficulty picking up momentum as we had to allow more time and mileage for the band rehearsing. Nevertheless, we eventually made up for the slag at the customary " 3am magic hour" till 5am. After the jam, the guys stayed around a bit longer to chill and for more drinks before packing up and calling it a night. All was quiet and gates closed at exactly 5:35am. Mission accomplished!
Let me not forget to acknowledge our loyal friends, Ed Diano, Nikki Segundo, Gab Villanueva and his son Christian for their presence and unwavering support. Likewise to Joaco's cousin and music room newby Art Marco and his partner Gina. Godspeed guys!
And so another night of merryment and blessings unfolded. As always, I thank and praise God!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Nov. 20, 2015 - Cantaloupe Island With Paul Casili, Archie Jacinto, Tinnie Esguerra, Rick Trinidad and Pete LapeƱa

NOVEMBER 20, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

And just when i thought that the place would be packed with guests with the traffic back to normal, it fell short of expectation. Amazingly, we just had a handful of guys who showed up for our regular friday shindig.

In fairness, the APEC traffic woes everyone had experienced this past days were just a temporary inconvenience in exchange for a more rewarding consequence for the country in general. We hope and pray that all the accomplishments brought about by the summit will indeed make our lives a little better in the future. God bless the Philippines.

What made up with the lack of numbers in audience attendance were the influx of class musicians who showed up to the jam. We were blessed with a strong line-up with quality musicians on stage. Gifted saxophonist Paul Casili finally made it back to the friday jam after more than a year we had not seen nor jammed with him. He invited along an equally talented fusion guitarist by the name of Archie Jacinto to join in. Guitarist extraordinaires, Anton Atengco and Nitoy Adriano were in the house as well. And so was drummer and all-around class musician Pj Cura. Houseband honchos Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Rick Trinidad, Dennis Espiritu, Monchie Henares and myself completed the evening's powerhouse.
We played mostly selected familiar tunes to allow our guest jammers to enjoy and fit in. Welcome on board, Paul and Archie. It is always great to have a good wind instrumentalist around with the likes of Paul. Archie gave a good accounting of himself, as well, with his proficient and creative licks and scales on the lead guitar. As expected, with Anton's talent, coupled with Nitoy's guitar wizardry unraveling plus the collaboration of the house band regulars, you can expect a great show.
The band played non-stop with the performers substituting one another when one just needs to take a break. And as usual Tinnie, Dennis,
Monchie and myself, capped the last wave until closing time at about 5:20am. Talk about the level of the jam at past 3am? Yes, a totally fulfilling and enjoyable jam to say the least. Thank and Praise God!
In a few more weeks, it's our yearly Pete's Place Music Room Christmas Party. It's the season to be merry! Definitely the happiest time of the year for me. We'll keep everyone posted.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

NOVEMBER 13, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Last night's festivity started off earlier than usual when at just past 7pm, while i was still settled back killing time, my gym assistant comes up to tell me that there was someone in the gym looking for me. Unable to gain entry to the music room, as it was still closed at the time. Lo and behold it was childhood buddy, fellow Air Force brat and flyboy Jet Bueno.
Based in Korea, Jet is in town for the weekend. He had decided to come early in consideration of foreseeable bad traffic conditions enroute coming from Quezon City. He was finally in the country to collect his music room shirt and to pick up Manny David's and George Limjoco's shirts, as well, to ferry to L.A when he flies there.
No time wasted, Jet grabbed and played Richard Parcia's limited edition 5-string Gibson les Paul guitar (just kidding..sounds kinky too..hahaha!) to officially start the jam. Bassist Rick Trinidad arrived next.
Soon, Beth Marquez Adriano and her two talented daughters Michelle and Kate walks in.
It was just a matter of minutes when Nitoy Adriano and Joaco Marco makes their entrance, as well. Finally, Tinnie Esguerra, Bubui Colico, Dennis Espiritu, Mark Longos, Monchie Henares and Kiko Montecillo completes the musicians who came out to join me last night. As expected, with a great band line-up comes great music!
It was also a night of meeting new friends. We welcome Robert and Tina Cruz to the Friday Jam. A hip and fun loving couple and our newest neighbor across the street. Barely 3 weeks as next-door neighbors, they blended well with the regular guys having much similarities in vibe. Even at past 2am, conceivably enjoying their time, the two invited some more cool friends to come over hoping to share their new found purlieu. Some of their guests even joined in the fun and sang a few songs on stage with the band. Welcome to our humble abode guys!
The jam turned out a joy with everyone completely in the zone. As a result, the music was solid and running like a well-oiled machine. What can you expect from having great musicians on board? It's incredible how making music can draw out that much rush of endorphines in one's system. What a blessing indeed.
Incidentally, we are still awaiting for word on a planned event ( I had mentioned in my update last week) to happen soon. Nothing final yet from the organizer. Will definitely keep you guys posted.
And so it came to pass. Thank and Praise God. Till the next Friday Jam. Hope to see you all then!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Nov. 6, 2015 - Watch how we learn a song (Baby Come Back) Kashli Saison mentoring the band on a new song with Tinnie Esguerra, Rick Trinidad, Pete LapeƱa and Monchie Henares on vocals

NOVEMBER 6, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Traffic here, traffic there, traffic everywhere. So what else is new? You can just imagine an even more horrendous occurrence as the holiday season approaches. So tell me about it. Come rain or shine, the show must go on. As a prelude of things to come, the weekend jam started quite late with the first wave of guests arriving at already past 10pm. Just about the time when traffic should have already eased up.
Gigi Rubio and bassist Rick Trinidad arrived simultaneously with most of the other guys in succession soon after. Rick had a bit of a misfortune when his car barely made it to the music room with some engine trouble compelling him to just hitch a ride back home after the jam. Houseband honcho Tinnie Esguerra arrived at his usual time along with his trusty acoustic guitars as balik-musicroom and accomplished guitarist Kashli Saison made an entrance while Tinnie was setting up on stage. Quickly, the band line-up was looking good. With Kashli's versatility, talent plus a wide array of songs in his repertoire, it is always a treat to have him on board.
Friday jam sophomore, Densho Sy made a comeback after his band Stringman's Blues Project's maiden gig last week. Conveniently residing in a village nearby, Densho is a welcome addition to our short list of drummers on call. We alternated on drum chores on instances that I was playing bass. It will be good to have him around more regularly.

Vocalist Monchie Henares and Joaco Marco completed the whole band roster for the evening. Monchie had to brave the hopeless traffic condition from his place in Malibay on his way here while Joaco had to come from another venue in Magallanes where he had met up with some other friends. Thanks guys for the unquestionable loyalty and effort.
Overall, it was an enjoyable and gratifying jam with a lot of classic flashback songs from the different eras courtesy of our good old Kashli. We jammed non-stop with just a few short set breaks in between making up for the late start. We had a feast video recording some of the jams hopefully to share and to add to our collection. Another mission accomplished for the weekend jammers.

Let me not forget to thank Ed Diano for the pizzas! A generous and a self-proclaimed music room big spender, Ed treated everyone with boxes of pizzas timely and selflessly feeding the hungry mob. Take note..he was just content on eating a piece and the rest for everyone's taking. What a guy! Bless his kind heart!
There is an upcoming celebration/event brewing up soon but is still in the works. No definite word on schedule and details yet. If things fall into place it should happen very soon. Will keep you posted.
And so, another successful night of friends, music and sumptuous pizzas! As always, i thank God for all the blessings!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Oct. 30, 2015 - Free Jam with Bobby Alvarez, Nitoy Adriano, Densho Sy & Rick Trinidad (I Shot The Sheriff)

OCTOBER 30, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

In expression of my own personal choice, what used to be one of the most lavish and decorated event of the year, it's been seven years that had past since the music room had decided to stop celebrating all hallows eve. Not to sound unhip nor corny, having none of it was definitely no dilemma. We can do without it. Last night once again proved just that.
As scheduled, Karl Borbajo's new band "Stringman's Blues Project" was our special guest for the evening. A long time music room friend, Karl came with his wife Cecille and his kids. I can still recall her eldest daughter Paige, who was then a toddler, always around with them when they come. Now she's all grown up. Time truly flies so fast.

The guest band took the first crack on stage and played a set of classic blues songs they had prepared for the evening. Karl played the guitar and did vocals as well. Good job guys! We wish your band all the best!
Another surprise musician who arrived was blues man Bobby Alvarez. An astute guitarist and vocalist himself, Bobby took center stage and jammed along with our very own Nitoy Adriano, who came with some balik-musicroom musician friends, whose names, unfortunately, i missed to recall (darn senior moments..my apologies).

House band stalwart Tinnie Esguerra brought along a guest as well. He goes by the name of Jonathan, a keyboardist and plays jazz. He sampled us a few tunes tinkering a few bars on the keys but unfortunately could not stay long enough to jam with us. We hope to see him back again next time soon.
Among the other regular musicians who showed up to jam were Joaco Marco, Rick Trinidad and Monchie Henares. At closing time, when most had already left, Tinnie, Monchie and myself tried some Christmas songs we had earlier planned to learn. Gab Villanueva did more than just being a spectator, joined us and played percussions with us as well. We video recorded our effort but we hope to brush up on it a lot more when the band is more complete.
Thanks to all the guests who dropped by. It's always fun to see the house packed with friends and merrymakers. Hoping the newbies who came had a memorable and fun experience. Till the next time guys. Godspeed!
And so another night of frolic, music and bonding concludes. As always a blessing to us all. We Thank and Praise God!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

OCT. 23, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

What a fun and productive jam it turned out to be with a good assemblage of musicians in the house last night. The band enjoyed added leverage with practically having two instrumentalists of each available to fill in on each slot. Around were astute keyboardists Rj Pineda and Kiko Montecillo, bassists Dennis Espiritu and Rick Trinidad, guitarists Tinnie Esguerra and Joaco Marco, drummers Bubui Colico and myself taking turns while Monchie Henares did what he does best, on vocals. The overall sound was rich and vibrant. With all the bases filled and productive, it's easy to find yourself in the zone.
The jam progressed quickly and early on with the band playing instrumentals at the onset and later with vocals. Music room sophomore Kiko fit in perfectly well with the ensemble and even contributing unexplored tunes that everyone enjoyed playing. Apart from some revisited songs we did, we were able to video record some nifty new songs as well. Great jam guys!
Along with great music, the guests had an added treat upon learning that their drinks were already spoken for. Thanks to balikbayan old friend Melvin Herrera for sponsoring a case of beer for the guys. You are the man Melvin! Of course with due respect to compulsive donor and music room big spender Ed Diano..hehe! May both your tribes increase!
Special thanks to Reynald Perez for making time to drop by to pick up his shirts. Likewise to Christine Mercado who, even in absentia, through the kindness of (hubby bubby) Rj, had settled and collected. Thanks guys...appreciate it!
Also, to Mark Longos, Ed Diano, Arabelle Jimenez, Gab Villianueva and his son Christian for their company. Hope to see you again next time.
And so another recharging and fulfilling night concludes...Already looking forward to next week. Thank and Praise God!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Oct. 16, 2015 - Monchie Henares on vocals ( I'm Not The Same Boy) with Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Dennis Espiritu & Pete LapeƱa

OCT. 16, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

At about 10:30 pm, as a consequence of last night's horrendous gridlock, i was just about to concede that the Friday jam was a nix. But as always, unexpected developments happen in the music room. Soon the guys started to trickle in. As if on queue, one after the other the guests arrived. By midnight, we had completed a proper band line-up. Among my bandmates, Joaco Marco was the first to arrive followed by Rick Trinidad. Tinnie Esguerra and Dennis Espiritu made it to the jam as well. Alas, we were all set and ready to jam.
We still managed to learn a couple of new tunes despite some minor technical problems with Tinnie's guitar. Fortunately, Tinnie was able to sort out and mend the problem eventually. As usual, Joaco played rhythm guitar, Rick Trinidad and Dennis alternated on bass, Monchie did vocals while i ended up playing the drums all night.
Super glad that my wife Vicky joined us coming straight from her Friday night out with her sister Ana and friend Allan Coscolluela. A fitting "salubong" to our 26th wedding anniversary. How time flies! Happy anniversary Hon..I love you!
Thank you Gab Villanueva and batchmate Jun Bediones for your presence. As always, we are totally grateful to see the regular guys around. A good audience and critique to the band's performances, these guys (with special mention to absentee Ed Diano) always pushes and encourages us to improve. God bless them all!
At 10:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon “LANDO” was located based on all available data at 295 km East of Baler, Aurora. It's has a maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph. Another strong typhoon expected to hit across the country. It is also forcasted to dump a lot of rain over northern and central Luzon including Metro Manila over the weekend and possibly till Monday or Tuesday before it finally heads northbound out of the country. Stay dry and safe everyone!
And so another recharging and gratifying Friday jam concludes. Mission accomplished! As always, I Praise and Thank God!
HAVE A SAFE WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

OCT. 2, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Despite tropical storm "Kabayan" looming north of Manila, the evening was indeed a gratifying one. Surprsingly, the weather was calm and dry. In contrast, the guest's elation from watching the Gilas semifinal game victory against Japan at the start of the evening manifested more fury than mother nature itself. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
Positively charged, it was time to jam. We had a pretty solid line-up with house band drummer Bubui Colico finally around and on board. With Tinnie Esguerra on guitar and keyboards, Rick Trinidad and myself alternating on bass, Joaco Marco on 2nd guitar, Richard Parcia on percussion and Monchie Henares on vocals, we were all set to go. Jazz was the menu for most of the evening. We had fun playing instrumentals at the onset trying out some old favorites then later on with Monchie on vocals. Later in the evening, balik-musicroom Nick Mangubat walked in and made a surprise comeback after more than a year in hibernation. Talented as ever, he performed solo and then with the band playing the guitar while singing some of his familiar classic tunes in his repertoire. When Bubui left, Nick even took over drum chores while i played bass. Welcome back to the music room Nick!
Music room pioneer, Air Force brat and childhood friend Raymond Donesa, who came with old friend Alex Joseph, was likewise in the house. As always funny and animated, Raymond typically makes his presence felt with his peculiar antics and demeanor to the total amusement of everyone and his would-be victims. Totally flushed at closing time, we had to let him lie down and sleep to recoup before he drives back home. Always great to see you around my friend. Hope you made it back home safe and sound.
Among the other guys who showed up were Mark Ronquillo, Gab Villanueva, Luisa Distor, Alan Coscolluela Rufino and Nikki Segundo who came along with some guests. Thank you all for coming.
Let me not forget to thank Ronnie Bungubung for manufacturing the new music room shirts, as well. Good job Ronnie! We had already distributed some of the shirts last night but there are still a lot waiting to be collected.
To all those in town who had ordered, please come and get it. By the way, interested parties can still order. So please let me know so that i can include you in the next batch. Thank you so much.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Sept. 25, 2015 - Kate on vocals (Loving You) w/ Tinnie Esguerra, Al Baisa, Joaco Marco & Pete LapeƱa

SEPT. 25, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Last night's turnout was not much different from last week but the substance was absolutely by far contrasting. An impromptu post birthday celebration of a music room buddy was the highlight of the evening. Belated happy birthday to Mark Ronquillo. comrade Richard Parcia, it was another pizza festival for the music room. God bless you more, Mark! May you have many many more productive years and pizzas to come.

An abundance of food and live music was the order of the day. Boxes of sumptuous, mouth watering pizzas overflowed anew all night courtesy of the magnanimous celebrant. As earlier proclaimed by
The music overflowed as well, with more masterful musicians and singers arriving to complement the regular house band. Tinnie Esguerra invited his friend Al Baisa, another talented guitarist to jam with us. Tinnie's penchant of inviting over worthy talents was again exemplified. Al was a revelation and definitely a good addition to last night's jam. Nice jam Al and good job Tinnie!
It was great to see percussionist extraordinare Dr. Mon Alleje back in the music room. Mon, who is based in Palawan, specifically flew in to surprise his mom on her 80th birthday and then spend his time with us after. Always great to have you around Mon! Happy 80th birthday to your mom. May God bless you both!
Jazz singer Mina Andrea was back in the house as well. This time she invited along two astute and talented female singers to join her. Welcome to the music room Kathy Mas and Nickie Mossman. As intended, the newbies will have their time on stage. A class act both in their performances and delivery, it was indeed a pleasure and a joy to watch and jam with. Everyone had so much fun that if not for the late hour (it was already past 5am) we could have gone on and on. There's always a next time ladies. We look forward to jamming with you guys again sometime soon.
Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Al Baisa, Richard Parcia, Rick Trinidad, Mon Alleje, Marc de Asis and vocalists Monchie Henares, Kate and Nicky were the complete list of musicians who joined me for the Friday jam. Thank you guys...great jam as always! Likewise, our gratitude to Reynald Perez, Lui Tatoy, Gabby Villanueva, Ed Diano and Rico Tayko for dropping by. Always a pleasure!
And so another fun night of music and frolic had concluded. I am totally recharged once again! Mission accomplished! Thank and praise God!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Sept. 18, 2015 - Jam Quartet ( James) with Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Rick Trinidad & Pete LapeƱa

SEPT. 18, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

SEPT. 18, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE - At times unpredicable and uncertain, last night's setting turned out to be quite slow starting a bit late and concluding earlier than usual. Uncharacteristically, the Monotones, who are the earybirds, even arrived late at already past 10pm. Later on a few guests and regular jammers trickled in to complete the small congregation for the weekly jam.
Perhaps as a result of a dip in the climate's temperature and possibly the lack of body heat, it was actually freezing inside the
music room with the airconditioning in full blast. All well and good..no complaints. A sort of a reminder for me that my favorite time of the year is just around the corner.
Similarly, the jam was atypically cold and not in it's usual vigor. The band just settled on trying out a few tunes doing both instrumentals and then with vocals. It did take us more time to attain momentum as everyone seemed to be on a lazy mode. Despite it all, we still managed to complete and video record a few of the songs that we did.
Among the band mates who showed up to join me were Rick Trinidad, Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Mark Longos, Monchie Henares and Dennis Espiritu. I took over the drumming chores, Tinnie played guitar and keyboards, Joaco on guitar, Mark on guitar while Rick and Dennis alternated on bass.
The jam actually ended an hour earlier than usual with myself still eager and hungry for more. My desire for more jammimg quickly changed and reverted into gastronomic proportions when Monchie ordered a party sized Yellowcab Pizza at past midnight for everyone to devour on. It was a welcome sight to behold! Thank you so much Monchie for the sumptuous, mouth watering pizza! God bless you!
Let's see what is in store for next weekend's jam. Unique each and everytime, the weekly jam's positive benefits surpass any other. Full house or not, wild or subdued, the satisfaction and joy it brings is unmeasurable. I thank and praise God unendlessly for these special blessing.
Hope to see you all next weekend!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Sept. 11, 2015 - trying out "Hermosa skyline" with Rj Pineda, Tinnie Esguerra, Bubui Colico & Pete LapeƱa

SEPT. 11, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

After 3 days being under the weather with head colds and a mild cough, a dose of the Friday jam truly did wonders. Recharged and energized, i am back in the groove..Thank and praise God!
Unexpecting any major eventuality, the weekend jam commenced at it's usual pace with the regulars trickling in at the onset. Mark Longos was the first to arrive at already past 9pm. Minutes apart, Rick Trinidad, Gab Villanueva, Tinnie Esguerra and Richard Parcia showed up soon after. To no surprise, the Monotones were also present along with other friends they had invited.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Brat Pack's David Abesamis de Koenigswarter and Christine Mercado back in the music room after last friday's successful event. They brought along and introduced their new drummer, Gilbert Asuque, who had replaced their equally talented drummer Allan Abdulla. We were told that Allan had joined another prolific band, the Bleu Rascals. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours. Eventually the whole Brat Pack line-up would be completed once again in the music room when piano master RJ Pineda arrives later in the evening. Amusingly, the guys came to fore, not as the band they are known to represent, but just to jam and have fun. Surely, the very essence and culture of what the music room is really all about. Way to go guys!
Last night David opted to play the guitar and Christine on lead along with their new drummer Gilbert. Rick Trinidad played bass. With no legitimate vocalist around Marc de Asis had to take over vocal chores to complete the roster. Incidentally, Chrisitne's friend and vocalist, Rina Santos, joined in and sang a few songs herself. Thank you Rina for being a good sport. Unfortunately, the young international blues stars had to pack up and leave early as they will still have to rest for an early gig the next day.
Shortly after his band mates had left, pianist Rj Pineda finally arrives. Timely, houseband drummer Bubui Colico shows up as well. And so, it's Rj on keyboards, Tinnie on acoustic guitar, Bubui Colico on drums, Rick and myself on bass. Guess what? It was the 3am magical jam hour. As always a special moment when the jam and mood is at it's supreme vibe. Definitely speaks for itself! Mind you, if you see Tinnie with a wide perpetual grin on his face while jamming, you can bet he is on a wild orgasmic musical journey. O well, I guess that's too much information already..haha! Super jam guys!
As always, our utmost gratitude to all the other friends and guests who dropped by. Always a pleasure! God bless you all!
After all is packed and quiet on stage, Tinnie, Rj and Ed Diano still stayed around to chill and recupe before finally calling it a night at already past 5am...5:15 to be more exact. And so, another fun and recharging night full of surprises concludes. All's well that end's well. As always, I Thank the Lord for the blessing!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

SEPT. 4, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

The celebrant's guests arrived early, some even coming straight from work. Didn't take long before the live music began with fellow Air Force brat, flyboy and total performer Jet Bueno at the helm doing his thing. With his distinctive musical and entertainining antics, Jet gamely entertained the earlybirds with his amusing energy and presence. What a trooper

The guests grew in number as the party progressed, patiently in anticipation awaiting the co-celebrants to arrive. Teen prodigy and the youngest Fender endorcer in the country, Joko Reantaso was back on stage. As expected, he wows the crowd with his display of guitar virtuosity at such a very young age. Truly a class of his own. Welcome back Joko!
Straight from their appearance at the Logano Blues Festival in Switzerland, the co-celebrant "the Brat Pack" finally arrives. Minus drummer Allan Abdullah who had begged off at the last minute to fulfill an unexpected commitment. The show must go on! Just a few adjustments here and there and we are back in business. Dynamic vocalist Christine Mercado, Rj Pineda and David Abesamis de Koenigswarter started the show but with a substitute drummer showcasing their usual brand of musical pizzazz to the delight of the cheering crowd. The highlight of the set was the awesome demonstration of Rj's versatility as he performed different numbers taking turns playing the drums, the guitar apart from the piano. It was no surprise that the audience ended up clamoring for more. Fantastic show guys!
After the smoke had cleared, so to speak, on the Brat Pack's awesome performance, the houseband and co. will not be denied and quickly took over the stage. Tinnie Esguerra, Nitoy Adriano, Bubui Colico, Jet Bueno, Rick Trinidad, Dennis Espiritu, Monchie Henares, Erwin Dimaculangan, Mark Longos were all around to join me. Prolific jazz vocalist Mina Andrea, made another comeback and bought along two new friends Joan and Misha. Joan even performed on stage, singing a few nifty songs with the band. Ofcourse, the jam will not be complete without Mina doing her thing. Despite the long night for her and an initial hesitation on our prodding, Mina finally agreed and joined in on stage. We still ended up doing quite a number of songs only to quit as it was almost 5am. What can i say but an excellent display of vocals. Great job!
Our utmost gratitude to all the other friends and guests who joined us, with special mention to my dear Air Force family as well. And to all the contributors who made the event a resounding success, we thank you all from the buttom of our hearts! WHAT A PARTEY!!!
Thank and praise God!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Jam at Pete's Place - Aug. 28, 2015 - Mina Andreas' "Till They Take My Heart Away" with Tinnie Esguerra, Joaco Marco, Bubui Colico, Pete LapeƱa and Mina Andreas on vocals

AUGUST 28, 2015 - FRIDAY JAM UPDATE

Last night's gathering was a far cry from the previous turnout. Just a handful of guys who braved the traffic made it to the music room. The long weekend, payday and an ongoing people's rally at some main thoroughfair in the metropolis caused gridlocks all over and likely disheartened most to come out to party.
Fortunately, the band attendance was good enough to complete a proper ensemble. Houseband drummer Bubui Colico was the very first to show up. Then came vocalist Marc de Asis and keyboardist/guitarist Tinnie Esguerra soon after. Finally, Joaco Marco, Rick Trinidad, Jj Disini, Monchie Henares and guest vocalist Mina Andreas joined me to complete the cast.
The jam started off with the band trying out some popular OPM renditions with Marc de Asis on vocals. We did some instrumental tunes along the way as well, some songs we had not done in ages. It's funny that with more than a thousand five hundred jam videos that we had already uploaded up to the present, we sometimes end up bewildered and on a bind not knowing what to eventually choose to play. It's crazy!
Music room sophomore Mina Andreas's rerturn on stage once again proved her vocal versatility and virtuosity. This time she tried out a variety of song styles. With the band, game and undeniably in the zone, plus a brilliant vocalist to boot, it was superb, to say the least. Quite a pleasure to behold and experience, if i may say so myself. Great jam guys!
Special thanks to Ed Diano, Mark Longos, Roger Salazar, Gab Villanueva and son Chris for dropping by despite the horrendous traffic. Always great to see friends around. Much appreciated guys. Godspeed!
Next week, September 4th, is expected to be another blockbuster. The Brat Pack Homecoming and Reynald Perez's Birthday Celebration will take place at the Friday Jam. We anticipate another smashing musical extravanganza with a lot of talented musicians expected to come and perform. Can't wait! Hope to see you guys then!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!
