Another epic evening unfolded at the much anticipated Joint Birthday Jam at the music room last night. A post birthday bash organized for our dear music room friends Richard Parcia and Bubui Colico. Barring the rain and traffic, family guests and friends of the celebrants flocked the place for a night of live music and frolic. Attended by a handful of musical talented friends and regulars, the jam was not-stop starting at around 9 o’clock till about sunrise at past 5:30am.
Lap steel guru Haro Echter, vocalist Tetel Serra along with celebrant Bubui were the first guys to arrive with co-celebrant Richard arriving minutes later. Soon the rest of the band showed up in full force all set and ready to play. After a night of rehearsals at the studio, last night was to be the big day, so to speak, for “Tetel” band.
Before the main band performed, some of the other band members took center stage, got themselves into the spirit and warmed up. For the meantime, i took the liberty of joining in to play bass, while the others are still busy eating and socializing. With a big spread of sumptuous food and goody’s brought in by the celebrants and generous friends to devour, i don’t blame them. Thank you to all the magnanimous donors.
Finally, it was time for “Tetel band” to perform. As expected, the band wowed the crowd with a long set of popular songs and medleys they had rehearsed and lined up to play. Vocalist Tetel Serra was at her usual element performing in tip top form along with equally dynamic birthday celebrants guitarist/vocalist Richard Parcia and drummer Bubui Colico, guitarist Erwin Dimaculangan, keyboardist Ralph Gulapa and Xyrus Judan their bassist.
It was a fitting and heartwarming tribute for Richard and company, made even more special with the presence of his family, along with his dearest mom, who was in attendance and the guest of honor. Welcome to the music room mommy Parcia and the Parcia clan.
Even after the main band was done, the jam went on unabated with the regular music room guys pitching in on stage. It was free jam from then on. Guitarist Joaco Marco, percussionist ( ….now flutist too) Vincent Garrucho, guitarist Joko Reantaso, bassist Dennis Espiritu, keyboard lord Kiko Montecillo and myself joined in with the rest of the musicians still onstage then. At long last, i finally was able to conjure some semblance of confidence to play and jam along with my new saxophone. A little more practice for me would definitely help. Hope i didn’t scare the rats and roaches away.
Before closing time, it was to be Kiko’s magic hour. Totally talented fella on the keys he is. Not even sunrise could have stopped us from playing but we had no choice but to call it a day at around 5:35am. Great jam indeed!
Let me not forget to thank everyone who came and made the evening awesomely special for our dear celebrants. Muchos gracias amigos y amigas!
And so the music room is alive and kicking once again. Praise and thank God for the blessing. We look forward to more fun, frolic and surprises on the weeks ahead.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE! GOD BLESS US ALL!
